Engaging Students in Inquiry and Discussion on International Issues: A Choices Program Working Conference

June 26, 2017 - Introductory preconference day
Join the Choices Program and classroom teacher from Tabor Academy for two days of interactive presentations, discussions and working sessions on the Choices Program’s materials and approach for teaching about contested international and public policy issues. Teachers new to the Choices program are invited to a preconference introductory day.
Bring your planning rubric along and develop strategies to implement the Choices Program in your classroom!
Prepare for the 2017-18 academic year:
- Examine the Choices Program’s inquiry model for exploring contested historical and current issues in the classroom, and discuss ways to adapt this approach to your classroom;
- Explore two Choices units appropriate for U.S. History, World History, Geography, Civics, Government, or contemporary issues courses;
- Network and share best practices with other social studies educators from across the country; and
- Enter our Choices Throw Down friendly competition and tell us about your best idea for modifying one of our lessons in your classroom. You could win a $200 credit towards Choices materials!
$250 per person. Includes three Choices curricular units, all conference materials, and meals. Everyone is also welcome to attend an evening reception on the 26th.
Add $100 for the June 26 Preconference Introductory Day for educators new to the Choices Program
For multiple registrations from the same school, contact Mimi Stephens for a quote. The registration fee is non-refundable, but you may send someone else from your school if you are unable to attend.
Overnight accommodations are available in Tabor Academy’s dorms (singles) for $45/night. Please register early. Space is limited.
All middle and high school teachers, regardless of their familiarity with the Choices Program’s materials, are invited to attend. Teachers new to the Choices Program are encouraged to attend the introductory preconference day on June 26.
