E-Texts - New from the Choices Program

E-Text

E-Texts are a new product designed for use in a paperless environment. They are an electronic product that is derived from our printed texts. They are available as a pdf package (delivered on CD) that includes individual pdf files for each reading, guide, or handout.

  • Student Readings - Each reading is a single file. They include the capability for students to highlight text and add notes, then “print” or “save” text.
  • Study Guides - Each guide is a single file. They have the capability for students to input their responses and either “print” the file or “save” it and then email it back to their teacher.
  • Student Handouts - Each handout is a single file. They have the same capability for students to input their responses and either “print” the file or “save” it and then email it back to their teacher.

Advantages over our paper, pdf, or student text formats

  • This new e-text format allows teachers to post materials on their intranet at their own pace and allow for a paperless classroom environment.
  • E-texts allow a teacher to work electronically with students in different locations (as in a virtual high school).
  • E-texts are less expensive per student than the option to purchase student texts (currently $9.75/copy).
  • When units are updated, new editions are available at a significantly reduced rate (see pricing below).

Pricing

  • Per Teacher: Price is based on the number of teachers; not the number of students. We recognize that individual teachers use all of a unit with some classes and parts with others.
  • Cost/Teacher: The cost per teacher is $240/teacher for each title. This price reflects a reduction from the price of printed student texts ($8 rather than $9.75ea) and an estimated 30 students per teacher. Shipping and Handling is a flat $10 rate plus $1 per disc shipped.
  • Updates: Updated editions will be available to current owners (district/school/teacher depending upon the terms in the original licensing agreement) at 75% discount off the unit price at the time of repurchase. (i.e. At the current price of $240, the update would be $60.)

Licensing Agreement

A licensing agreement must be signed prior to shipping CD(s).

  • The licensing agreement can be with a district, school, or individual teacher. The license indicates that permission is granted to post these resources in a limited access environment (restricted to students enrolled in courses).
  • The licensing agreement indicates the number of teachers to whom the license applies. For each title purchased, one CD per teacher is provided.
  • Licensing agreements are not transferable from one teacher to another or one institution to another. However, a license with a school or district can be applied to the same number of teachers in the system from one year to the next (recognizing changing teaching assignments and staff turnover).
