Anil Askin

Anil Askin is a PhD candidate in the History Department at Brown University. He holds a BA in Economics and History and an MA in History from Bogazici University in Istanbul, Turkey. His research explores intersecting histories of capital, labor, and environment in the early modern Ottoman Empire. Specifically, he studies how the elite utilized debt and violence to accumulate capital and establish class dominance in the countryside in the eighteenth and early nineteenth centuries.
